Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso could only manage a second place finish at the Montreal Grand Prix during the weekend, but the Spaniard has stated that he is extremely happy with this second place finish itself because it felt like a victory.
Ferrari have been struggling for form since the start of the campaign. As a result, they have dropped below Red Bull in the race for the constructors and drivers world championship table. After the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso is 36 points behind the leaders Vettel in the table.
However, in the gap could have easily been much bigger had it not been for a spectacular resurgence from Alonso during the race. He started the race from the sixth position, but he was able to make up several places over the course of the race to finish in the podium positions. Even though he was not able to claim the victory, Alonso has stated that he is more than satisfied with the points he has secured from this race. Alonso has said that he is confident that Ferrari will be able to return to their former glory days starting with the next few races.
Ferrari have been unable to cope with the slow nature of the circuits in the last few races, but the forthcoming races will be extremely fast.
“Yesterday obviously we didn’t have a good qualifying; I didn’t put a lap together and the conditions didn’t help. But we knew the pace of the car in dry conditions on Friday was good so we had some hopes. Obviously we are fighting with top drivers and I had a very good fight with Mark [Webber], with Nico [Rosberg] and with Lewis at the end. It’s not easy even if you have a little bit more pace they are super talented ones,” said Alonso.
